Metabolic PhenoCage

Urine & Faeces Separation, Calorimetry

The Metabolic PhenoCage special separates, collects and quantifies urine and faeces of mice or rats and provides important information about the animal’s energy balance. Dedicated urine and faeces collection funnels direct urine and faeces into standard lab tubes. Weighing sensors quantify urine and faeces by amount and time. An optional high-speed freezing unit conserves the samples for later analysis.

The Metabolic PhenoCage is part of the PhenoMaster family and can thus be equipped with various modules such as the infrared light-beam frame (ActiMot3) to monitor locomotor activity. Air-tight versions of the Metabolic PhenoCage together with high-speed freezing units allow indirect gas calorimetry (CaloSys).

Featuring autoclavable components are easy to assemble, maintain, disassemble and clean. Thus, the Metabolic PhenoCage is a multi-talent to investigate various different metabolic and behavioral parameters at the same time.
