The Linton Incapacitance Tester offers an automatic and reproducible assessment of analgesic efficacy by measuring the weight distribution of the hind paws of a small animal.

The force exerted by each limb is averaged over a user selectable period, indicating any tendency for the animal to shift it’s weight from one side to the other. This provides a quantitative measurement of incapacitance.

The technique of dual channel weight averaging overcomes a number of deficiencies in the traditional method of pain/inflammation assessment (Randall Selitto 1957) by continuously monitoring both limbs and eliminating the subjectivity of the paw-withdrawal method.

The Incapacitance Tester was developed by researchers and engineers at a leading pharmaceutical company in the UK where it has become a routine test.

The Incapacitance Tester is simple to operate and, aside from periodic calibration, it requires minimal maintenance. All functions are controlled using three buttons via menus on the large high-contrast display, or via the optional ‘Linton Logger’ software.

Two models are available:

Small Animal – Mouse/Rat/Guinea-Pig (2 x 1Kg sensors)

Large Animal Model – Rabbit (2 x 5Kg sensors) Details available on request.
