PinPort™ for Catheters and Tubing

The PinPort™ provides fast, aseptic access to externalized rodent catheters or tubing for dosing or blood sampling. It can reduce study costs and improve compliance with the 3Rs. The system consists of a lightweight port, just 3mm in diameter and 0.1g, and a mating injector which can access the port hundreds of times.

The PinPort™ is available with 22ga, 25ga or 28ga couplers to mate with 3Fr, 2Fr or PE10 catheters, respectively. The white, red or blue colors can be used to distinguish vessels. Use only PNP3M injectors or PinPort connectors to access PinPorts; any other type of needle will damage the port. All parts are provided sterilized by ethylene oxide.

The PinPort™ is designed for intermittent, manual access. It is not designed to be connected to a tether and swivel for remote or continuous access; for tethered applications use the related Vascular Access Button™ for rats and mice.

Animals can be ordered from vendors with the PinPort™ installed at the time of catheterization. Envigo has developed an effective method for anchoring the PinPort™ and has achieved impressive patency: 90% of rat JVCs fully patent (infusion and sampling) after one month, flushing only once per week. Charles River Laboratories also offers rodents with PinPorts™ as an option with their vascular surgeries.
