For tethered and intermittent access
This VAB™ variant was developed for the surgeons at The Jackson Laboratory who needed a design that would work with their diverse strains of mice. The button provides a number of benefits over a simple exteriorized catheter:
- Simplified access with a syringe for intermittent dosing or sampling, or a tether for continuous infusion
- Improved patency
- Ability to group house (with the protective cap)
The button features a medical-grade silicone mesh disk, 14mm in diamter, with eight holes through which tissue will grow. The button stalk is our original o-ring based design which minimizes the exit site. It does not work with our tethers that attach with magnets; however, the silicone disk is also available on our standard magnetic mouse VAB.
This button can be made with nitinol connectors so that it is MRI compatible (part no. VAB62SMBS/25-MRI).
The buttons have 25ga connectors to mate with 2Fr polyurethane mouse catheters.
